The History of Brewbaker Intermediate School

Cassie Leta Brewbaker Elementary School opened in August of 1978, on a seventy-six acre site donated by the William S. Brewbaker Family in memory of the late Cassie Leta Brewbaker, an outstanding public school teacher for nearly forty years and a civic leader of great renown.  In only one year, student enrollment grew to such an extent that additional space was needed to house the students.

During the scholastic year 1979-80, the new facility was constructed.  A breeze-way connected this facility, with its thirty-two classrooms, to the original twenty-eight classroom building.  Student enrollment continued to grow.

To accommodate the additional students and to serve the large student body more effectively, several changes occurred during the 1988-89 scholastic year.  The large school was divided into two smaller schools; a primary school (K-3) and an intermediate school (4-6).  Cassie Leta Brewbaker Elementary then became known as Cassie Leta Brewbaker Elementary Complex.

Fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and by the Alabama State Department of Education, both Brewbaker Primary School and Brewbaker Intermediate School reflect academic excellence and strong cohesiveness.  Both schools are organized into learning communities, wherein emphasis is placed upon providing a nurturing environment for students and teachers.  In these learning communities, students feel the warmth, caring, and closeness of a small school while enjoying the benefits of a larger school, i.e. extensive media center services and numerous special programs. Our teachers are highly qualified.

As the student body has expanded, the Parent-Teacher Association has expanded.  The Cassie Leta Brewbaker Elementary Complex boasts two active and highly visible PTA's. It is also through PTA efforts, that the Elementary Complex maintains an exceptionally strong volunteer program.
